Karen stepped up to the batting strip with the warmth of the noonday sun falling upon her shaggy, shoulder-length light brown hair and nervously bit her bottom lip as she stood there in front of her teenage classmates, broad cricket bat in hand.
“Come on, Karen, we need two runs here,” yelled a male student from the stands. Except her batting partner, who was at the opposite end of the strip, Karen was surrounded by the defense. There were fielders on her right and left;each player ready for any type of action. All eyes were on Karen.

Tide stepped out of the lashing ocean waves and immediately found herself in a world of bright sunshine that made her eyes squint and her damp hair and body feel slightly warm. Still touching the waves with the softness of her skin, she waded onto the shore, only to observe that beside herself, there was another person on the beach.
